Sicilian Singer-Songwriter Builds a Nine-Track Concept Record Around the Weight of a Soul

Giuseppe Cucè works from Catania, in Sicily, and writes in Italian for anyone willing to sit with a record rather than skim it. 21 grammi arrived on 20 June 2025. It runs to nine tracks, and it takes its title from the old idea that the human soul weighs twenty one grams. Cucè turns that image into a question the whole record keeps asking: how much does everything we carry actually weigh?

Who Giuseppe Cucè Made 21 grammi For

This is a record for people who still play albums in order. The nine tracks move through love, desire, memory, separation and what comes after. They are sequenced so the arc matters more than any single cut.

The production choices tell you who else is invited. There are real players here, and analogue warmth rather than a plug-in imitation of it. The orchestral arrangements carry the songs instead of decorating them. Giuseppe Cucè deliberately stepped away from the electronic default of most current pop. So the company he keeps is fairly clear: Paolo Conte’s storytelling, Franco Battiato‘s habit of building a record around one idea, the orchestral patience of Ludovico Einaudi.

Language is worth addressing directly, because it is the first thing an English-speaking listener notices. 21 grammi is sung in Italian throughout. That has not slowed it down. The record found listeners in the United States and across Latin America without translation. Clearly the arrangements and the delivery are doing plenty of the work.

The Nine Songs, and What Holds Them Together

The album opens on È tutto così vero and closes on Di estate non si muore. In between sit Ventuno, Dimmi cosa vuoi, Fragile equilibrio, La mia dea, Cuore d’inverno, Tutto quello che vuoi and Una notte infinita. The titles alone map the territory: certainty, longing, balance, winter, an endless night.

Cucè has said he wants music, lyrics and the visual side to read as one piece. For a listener, that mostly shows up as coherence. Nothing here feels bolted on. The record holds a single register from the first track to the last.

“Creating 21 grammi was an intensely personal journey into the core of human emotion, exploring the ‘weight’ we carry through life’s experiences,” said Giuseppe Cucè. “It has been incredibly rewarding to see this vision resonate with listeners and critics across so many different countries, proving that authentic storytelling and organic sound have a universal language.”

QueerPeople.News curator team: “What makes 21 grammi work is that it never rushes to the point. Records built on a single concept usually announce it in the first thirty seconds, then spend the rest of their length restating it. This one lets the idea sit underneath nine songs and trusts you to find it. That is a generous way to make an album, and it is why it rewards a second pass.”

The Response Has Come From Well Beyond Sicily

Coverage has been steady rather than sudden, and it has arrived from a scattered set of places. The Interviewist ran a piece on him. Distortion Diaries wrote the record up under the heading “The Weight of the Soul”. AKT Music covered it as a poetic album, then pushed it again on Threads. Lost in the Manor included him in its rock picks.

That spread matters more than any single write-up. An independent Italian songwriter has assembled a readership across three continents, one outlet at a time. There is no major label behind him. Nothing about that happens quickly.

It also says something about the audience itself. People who seek out this kind of record tend to find each other and share it. Then they keep it in rotation for years rather than weeks. That is a slower community than a chart audience, and a more durable one.

Where to Hear the Record and Find Giuseppe Cucè

Stream the album on Spotify or Apple Music. If you want a single entry point instead, start with È tutto così vero, the track that opens it.

There is more context on the official site. Finally, he keeps up with listeners on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X and his YouTube channel.
